Whitney Wreath Family Letter 2018

Dear Friends,

‘Tis the season of giving thanks! As I write this letter, I reflect (which was done during my meditation time, a.k.a. bush hogging on my John Deere) and realize how much I have to be grateful for this year.

This year is a special year for Whitney Wreath as it marks the 30th anniversary of our company.  I began making Christmas wreaths from Maine balsam fir while still in college. Now 30 years later, we have 4 facilities, offer 20 different Maine-made holiday products, and employ over 400 people, including 20 full-time employees. To be able to operate and grow a sustainable business in Washington County, Maine is no small feat. I am filled with a sense of purpose and satisfaction knowing that Whitney Wreath enables local people to earn a viable income so they can support and raise their families in our unique Down East Maine. There is truly no place like the bold coast of Maine to live, work and play.

Our family continues to grow and thrive. Our daughter Michon is an honor roll sophomore, plays on her school’s soccer team, and was the homecoming queen. It is hard to believe she will be driving soon, thinking about college, and starting her first, part-time job at Whitney Wreath (of course!). She is still and always will be daddy’s little girl.

Coleton is in 7th grade, an honor roll student, and plays soccer, baseball and basketball. His baseball team won the regional championship and was the first team in 25 years to make it to the state championship. This was a memorable experience with our community that will not soon be forgotten. In addition, he was chosen for the National Junior Honor Society at his school.

Ashton is our soccer-playing, honor roll student in the 6th grade. This year he stepped up to join the junior high team soccer team. This has been a pivotal year for him. Ashton has autism, the result of an injury from a vaccine he received at 20 months old. This fall, Ashton underwent stem cell therapy at the Stem Cell Institute in Panama City, Panama. We have noticed genuine improvements that have brought this dad to tears. I am inexplicably grateful and hopeful for his future and recovery.

My wife Holly is the number one children’s advocate in the world! I attribute Ashton’s path to healing 100% to this amazing woman. She is the busiest and best wife, and we celebrated 19 years together this year. I can’t imagine doing this life journey with anyone else.

As for me, during the summer months, my CEO hat was replaced with an umpire’s hat as I spent time on the baseball field participating in America’s pastime. This fall, I coached Coleton and Ashton’s soccer team as well as terming out after nine years on the Down East Community Hospital  Board of Trustees, an organization I was proud to serve.

Our family looks forward to the holidays, gathering with friends and family, skiing the slopes of Maine, and enjoying the winter season to its fullest. Thank you for allowing Whitney Wreath to decorate your homes and contribute to your festivities and memories. I wish you and yours a healthy, happy, and hope-filled holiday season.

David Whitney CEO,

Whitney Wreath
